Wasim Akram is one of the very few recognizable Pakistani legends in recent times. However, at the moment, the 45-year old has come out with a revolutionary concept to help Sri Lankan cricket re-find its lost luster. This also witnesses Akram involve the former Lankan players for his tournament that will take place soon.
Reports from the Lankan camp go on to state that the former Pakistan ‘King of Swing’ would conduct camps and workshops for Sri Lanka players who are currently pursuing fast bowling. Moreover, with the 2019 World Cup set to be underway in less than a few years, it seems clear that the camps are necessary, to say the least.
Thilanga Sumathipala, the President of the SLC also went on to state his pride for the same. Sumathipala was also pleased by the fact that a bowler of Akram’s caliber was there to lead the Lankans in the future.
Sri Lanka Cricket President Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala stated “With the amazing young talent that Sri Lanka is just brimming with at the moment, the World Cup in 2019 is fast becoming a reality. We have already put the technical and the scientific pillars into place. The invaluable insight our players can gain from the vast reservoir of knowledge and expertise of world cricket’s legends will provide them with the store of game knowledge they will need”
“A cricketer and a gentleman of the caliber of Mr. Akram is the ideal mentor to give wing to this latest initiative of SLC by which we intend to invite a series of such legends of the game to conduct workshops with our players and to also mentor our coaches to perpetuate that learning. We are honored that Mr. Akram has accepted our invitation to be a part of this initiative.” He concluded.
