Wasim Jaffer gives an insight on his cricketing future

Ever since Wasim Jaffer has moved from Mumbai to Vidarbha, the face of the latter side has changed completely. Vidarbha has won the coveted Ranji Trophy twice in two years and it is needless to say that Jaffer has been topping the charts relentlessly. Even in the recently concluded season, he amassed 1037 runs in 15 matches at an average of 69.17 with four centuries to his name with a high score of 206.

Akshay Wakhare, after winning the Ranji final against Saurashtra, gave all the credit to Jaffer’s experience for winning back-to-back titles. The veteran has been making a positive impact on the youngsters in the dressing room and at the age of 40, is getting even better as a batsman. However, even Jaffer is aware of the fact that there isn’t a lot of cricket left in him now.

While speaking to Hindustan Times, Wasim Jaffer didn’t make much fuss about that though and felt it is more important to concentrate on the upcoming Irani Trophy at the moment. Rest of India led by Ajinkya Rahane will challenge Vidarbha in Nagpur in the Irani Trophy from February 12.

Can’t comment now

“Ummm, can’t really comment now. Let’s see, there is an Irani Trophy match coming up. Will play that, and then assess. As far as there is motivation to play the game, I will continue. But the day, I feel it becomes taxing to get up in the morning and train, I might call it quits. It is all about having that desire, you see. Not getting any younger, so it keeps getting difficult to train with the same intensity. I know, I do not have many seasons left in me, but let’s see,” Jaffer said.

Wasim Jaffer also seems to be more interested in coaching as he said, “Where next? Don’t know to be honest. Yes, coaching is something which I want to do, commentary is one of the options. Will decide and take a call when the season ends.”
