Brendon McCullum played an entertaining innings in his farewell match in front of the full house Seddon Park, Hamilton. He came out to open the innings and made a quickfire 47 off just 27 balls.

It was a quiet start as he played down the first three balls he faced calmly. But, it didn’t take long for him to unleash himself at the Australians. He hit three fours in the following over by John Hastings. The right-hander was now was in the groove and struck hard hits to the boundaries until he skied one up in the air off the bowling of Hastings to get out in the 10 over of the innings. People stood from their seat and clapped as McCullum walked back to the dressing room.

‘Baz’ had said that he will retire from international cricket at the end of the Australian tour. Incidentally, it was against the same opposition that he made his debut in at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2002. In a mark of respect for the McCullum, Australian players split into two and gave a guard of honor as he walked into the field. His teammates honored him and gave a perfect send-off after they won the game to lift the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy.

Brendon McCullum is perhaps the most influential cricketer in the Black Caps history. He has been a great ambassador for New Zealand cricket and has played a huge role in evolving the whole team. His true legacy will be the self-confidence which he induced into the New Zealand team, turning them into a feared opposition.
