Celebs condemn Tanmay Bhat’s dig at Sachin Tendulkar

Standup comedian Tanmay Bhat of the All India Bakchod (AIB) recently posted on his snapchat account a face swapped video mocking legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and singer Lata Mangeshkar.

The video saw the comedian imitate the two legendary people and argue on a baseless issue. It saw Tanmay acting as Sachin Tendulkar and calling Lata Mangeshkar as 5000 year old lady who should die. It further saw Sachin say that even John Snow died and so should she. “Your face looks like someone has kept you in water for eight days.” Bhat, in the reply, imitated as Lata Mangeshkar said Sachin had no signature move other than adjusting his abdomen guard.

Clearly, the intended humor didn’t go down with most people and perhaps only Bhat saw the humorous side in it. Bhat, however, tried to keep the angry comments away by giving a consolatory caption, “Sachin vs Lata Civil War (I make such nonsense on my Snapchat – follow me there – ID: Thetanmay) (Also I obvously love Lata and Sachin, just having some fun).”

The Bollywood celebrities, most notably Anupam Kher and Riteish Deshmukh condemned the video quoting it as absolutely disgusting. Anupam Kher said that he has been a comedian for years now with a lot of awards but this video was definitely not humorous. Anupam Kher took to social media Twitter and tweeted, “I am 9 times winner of #BestComicActor. Have a great sense of humour. But This is NOT humor. #Disgusting&Disrespectful.”

Riteish Deshmukh joined in soon to call that disrespect is neither cool nor humorous in any way. “Am absolutely shocked. Disrespect is not cool and neither is it funny,” he wrote on Twitter.

Celina Jaitly also joined the act and said that the video was nothing but appalling. She wrote “Absolutely.. Shocked and appalled. Not amused. Lata Mangeshkarji needs to be apologised to NOW!!”

Incidentally, Tanmay Bhat and his group AIB are known for being in controversies. They were driven in a controversy when they had hosted the AIB roast last year.
