There have been many occasion where a very special effort is required to removed a batsman who is batting in fine form. India faced Western Australia XI for the 50 over practice game which was preceded by yesterday’s T20 clash.
Indians were putting up a decent show and were at 131/4 with Rohit Sharma and Manish Pandey in the middle. James Muirhead was into the 27th overs of the match. Pandey ticked a single which brought Rohit Sharma at strike who struck a wonderful six off the first ball he faced. However, the next ball turned to be ominous for him.
Muirhead bowled a slightly short delivery which induced Rohit to played a late cut. However, the ball bounced little more than expected, top-edging the bat. D’Arcy, at slips, quickly reacted and stretched to the right and was able to grab the ball with both hands. But, he couldn’t collect it cleanly as the ball popped out of his hand and sprung up. D’Arcy, who was still in motion, dived again and grabbed the ball to complete a one-handed catch.
Rohit Sharma should not be upset as he had done nothing significantly wrong to get out and it was a brilliant ‘bowler- slip’ effort that sent him packing.
James Muirhead, on the other hand, had a very successful day as he finished with figures of 2/55. Just before dismissing Rohit Sharma, the 22-year-old leg-spinner had clean bowled Ajinkya Rahane for his first wicket.
