Watch: Darren Stevens bowls a loosener to start off the play

Fast bowlers generally take a couple of deliveries to loosen up themselves before bowler at in their normal rhythm. Fast bowling isn’t an easy job and demands a lot physically, especially if it’s a four-day game.

But, sometimes, bowler tend to do bit silly things. They try something else and end up with a completely awkward result. Same was the case with Kent fast bowler Darren Stevens.

The 40-year-old county veteran started off his spell with an awkward beamer towards the leg side. The batsman and wicket keeper were caught unaware and looked in disbelief. The swing bowler ran in gently and arrived at the bowling crease smoothly to deliver the ball. Everything seemed okay until the delivery point where the ball slipped off his hands and went flying towards the leg slip area.

His palms were sweaty it appeared, by the way, he wiped his hand after bowling. The right arm fast bowler opened the bowling with his fellow mate Matt Coles and had a rather unsatisfying day finishing with 0/49 at the end of day one.

His team, however, had a very successful day. They bowled out Worcestershire for mere 211 runs. Stevens’ opening bowler Matt Coles and James Tredwell took two wickets each while left-arm medium pacer snapped a single wicket. The real contributor with the ball was the tall fast bowler Mitchell Claydon who registered a 5 wicket haul.

Coming out to bat second, they ended the day with 55/0 on the scoreboard.
