Sunrisers Hyderabad player Ben Cutting made one of the best saves of the season when he leaped in the air and saved a certain six during the Qualifier 2 match against Gujarat Lions.
The stage was set for the all-important game between the two sides at the Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi. Both Sunrisers and the Lions are just a win away from reaching the finals to compete with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Being asked to bat first Gujarat had a very poor start with the bat. The early jolts hit them so bad that they could barely recover until the middle overs. In the process, they kept losing key wickets too. However, it was Aaron Finch, who led the counter attack after the midway stage in the innings.
It was in the 15th over by Barinder Sran when Finch clubbed one over the mid-wicket region. The ball looked flying and was set to land beyond the fences when Ben Cutting came into the scene. Cutting, who was placed right on the edge of the boundary, realized that the ball might just be over the ropes and hence dived backward in the air. While he was still in the air, he caught the ball and before he could make contact with the ground threw the ball back to the playing field.
It took everyone quite a while to describe the action, but in reality, Cutting did all this in a fraction of a second. It was a truly marvellous effort from the young Australian. We had earlier seen Brendon McCullum make a similar save in the league stages of the tournament against the Delhi Daredevils. However, this effort has to be the save of the tournament and there is a remote chance that this could be emulated by any other player.
