The DRS debate sparks again as the Indian team had to accept a decision they would have loved to review in the 1st ODI vs Australia. George Bailey along with Steve Smith led Australia to a comprehensive victory as Australia defeated India by 5 wickets. Earlier in the day, Bailey scored a game turning century having survived a caught-behind appeal for gloving the first ball down the leg side.

The Aussies were in trouble at 21/2 in the fifth over when there was an appeal by the Indian team on the very first ball Bailey faced. Skipper MS Dhoni didn’t sound much confident in his appeal and that could’ve well been the reason umpire Richard Kettleborough gave it not out. The replays displayed a clear deflection off Bailey’s gloves. This decision has yet again sparked the DRS controversy as Bailey’s innings changed the course of the game and turned the tide in Australia’s favour.

The Indians were helpless as they couldn’t challenge the decision. When Bailey was asked during post innings, he said, “Felt something on my thigh. Would have been interesting to see that on DRS. Anyways we aren’t the team that doesn’t want it”. However, MS Dhoni continued with his stance against DRS and also added that the DRS shouldn’t be umpire’s decision justification system. He also pointed out that he felt some gloves involved but he wasn’t 100% sure whether Bailey was out. “It happens, you appeal sometimes, it goes in your favour, and sometimes it doesn’t.” He said.
