Watch: Harmanpreet Kaur sizzles with a thunderous six

India women’s T20 team captain created history when she became the first Indian cricketer to play in the Big Bash League. Kaur turned up for the Sydney Thunder in the 2nd edition of the WBBL. Playing against the Melbourne Stars, Harmanpreet Kaur announced herself in grand style. The all-rounder almost took her side to victory.

Kaur ended as the leading run scorer for the Sydney Thunder in the match. She scored an unbeaten 47 off mere 28 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Her efforts saw Sydney finish with 141/4 in their stipulated 20 overs. Earlier in the day, the Thunder had managed to keep the Melbourne Stars down to 147/8 in their 20 overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur made her first appearance with the ball as she bowled 2 overs for 16 runs and no wickets to her name. The best came later in the innings. The highlight of the knock was her brutal hitting that awestruck everybody. From the non-striker batsman to the commentators and the bowler herself, Harmanpreet Kaur impressed all with one particular six.

The action perspired in the penultimate over of the run chase. Kaur looked set at 28 with Gemma Triscari bowling with full rigour. The last delivery of the over saw Triscari pitch it up and wide of the off stump. Kaur was quite to get down low and clobber one over the covers for a massive six.

Triscari’s expression after watching the ball sail over the fence said it all. The intensity and the power behind the shot spoke volumes about the talent of the Indian women’s team captain. Earlier, Kaur had come in to bat at number 4 with Sydney Thunder placed at 60/2 in 9.4 overs.

Kaur came into the tournament with a huge reputation. She had recently led the Indian women team to a triumphant title winning campaign in the Asia Cup T20. With the kind of beginning that she has got, she is sure to make an impact in the tournament.
