Jimmy Peirson, who plays for Queensland and the Redlands Tigers in Brisbane Grade Cricket, has been a regular feature of the Brisbane Heat team in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL). The 23-year-old is a fine wicketkeeper and also opens the batting for his team. In today’s match against the Sydney Sixers, he spanked a six that will be will long be remembered by fans present at the historic SCG.
Fast bowler Jackson Bird bowled an eventful 2nd over of the Heat innings. The first ball was smoked out of the park by Peirson who picked the length early and muscled it mercilessly. It bounced off the roof and then landed inside the second tier. This was the member’s stand over deep midwicket. The clean swing of the bat and the connecting the ball right off the middle it produced this massive hit that thrilled the patrons and commentators alike.
Peirson though, couldn’t quite continue his big hitting and was dismissed off the 4th ball of the same over. A wild heave over midwicket lobbed high in the air and Doug Bollinger took a simple catch at backward point. The Brisbane outfit set a competitive target managing to reach 162/8 in 20 overs.
Peirson made his limited overs debut in 2013 for Queensland against New South Wales. He made his First-class debut for Cricket Australia XI against the West Indians during their tour of Australia in December 2015. He made a good impression scoring 64 in the one innings he got to bat in. The right-hander has played 15 T20 matches prior to today’s game and has scored 297 runs including 2 fifties.
