Watch: Jos Buttler goes the AB de Villiers way to hammer Pakistan: English wicket-keeper Jos Buttler’s devastating 116* off just 46 balls against Pakistan in the 4th and final ODI handed England an 84-run victory and the series 3-1. He played a special knock and spanked the hapless bowlers for 8 sixes and 10 boundaries. He kept improvising and hit some delightful shots which thoroughly entertained a big crowd at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Buttler has recently stated that the invention of Twenty20 and AB de Villiers’ approach are reasons for his own big-hitting style. The manner in which he kept manufacturing the reverse hits with ease, even ‘ABD’ would have been proud of that.
A compilation of his lusty blows, this video showcases Buttler’s amazing batting skills. Three outrageous shots, a deft reverse shot over third-man making a last moment adjustment, another reverse hit between point and short third-man and a scoop over the wicket-keeper, are simply incredible. It is remarkable to hit the fast bowlers for reverse shots and it requires great skills to execute these shots.
Buttler played well all-round the wicket using a strong bottom hand. He hit shots over cover and down the ground and was particularly strong on the leg side. He muscled some powerful blows over mid-wicket boundary and kept punishing the bowlers. Using his feet well against the spinners he hit a six straight six and also dispatched one over deep mid-wicket by bending down on his knees playing a brilliant slog-sweep. He kept moving in the crease and kept the bowlers guessing. The short-arm pull was also used to great effect.
Buttler’s knock highlighted England’s ODI revival in recent times. Playing fearless and positive cricket, England have earned themselves many fans who have long hoped for such attitude from its ODI team. Buttler is a key player and will be looking to stamp his authority in the upcoming important series against South Africa; the world’s top-ranked Test side.
