JP Duminy strikes Sri Lanka out with a hat-trick: South African batsman JP Duminy bowls harmless off spinners, which should not bother the batsmen much. And even his team consider’s him an arm roller; but sometimes he can be a tough bowler to handle. The Sri Lankan’s found that out in their Quarter Final (QF) defeat to South Africa.

Duminy took a broken hat trick against Sri Lanka in the first QF of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at Sydney. Duminy struck with the final ball of the 33rd over to get Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews caught by Faf du Plessis at short mid-wicket for 19.

And in the first two balls of his next over, he removed Nuwan Kulasekara caught behind for one and then had debutant Tharindu Kaushal LBW for a golden duck on his one-day international debut to leave Sri Lanka in dire straits at 116/8. Duminy is the first South African to register a World Cup hat-trick. He is also the eighth bowler to achieve a World Cup hat-trick, with Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga having two to his credit at the showpiece tournament.

Sri Lanka could only muster 133 runs and lost the match by 9 wickets when South Africa chased the total at ease, thanks to a quick fire 78 from Quinton de Kock.

JP Duminy became the second bowler from South Africa to take an ODI hat-trick after Charl Langeveldt’s hat-trick against West Indies in 2005.

The first hat-trick of the tournament was taken by England pacer Steven Finn against Australia on the very first day of the event.
