Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni didn’t have a particularly good outing in the 1st ODI against England and was dismissed after scoring only 6 runs. It was the first time MS Dhoni came out to bat after he stepped down from India’s limited-overs captaincy days before the squad for the England series was announced by the selectors.

Virat Kohli who is the current Indian captain across all formats felt that stepping down from captaincy will allow Dhoni to play his natural game which he was so famous for when he burst onto the scene way back in 2005. The 35-year-old hasn’t been in the best of nicks of late but given a number of ups and downs Dhoni has seen in his life, we might be in for something dramatic in the twilight moment of his career.

Team India played the first ODI in Pune and stayed back there as all the hotel rooms in Cuttack (the venue for the 2nd ODI) were booked for weddings and will be vacant only on Thursday morning. After a day’s rest Team India was in full flow in their practice session and MS Dhoni was seen sweating it out at the nets.

The video which was posted by BCCI saw Dhoni taking us down the memory lane where he is seen hitting some ferocious shots of the bowling of a local left-arm spinner. He began with some straight hits over the bowler’s head. He middled the ball to perfection and it sailed over the nets.

He then unleashed a barrage of pull and slog sweeps which he connected from the meat of the bat. The ball was finding the sweet spot on Dhoni’s bat on most of the occasions and the Brits might be in for a MSD special come Thursday.

India will meet England in the 2nd ODI at Cuttack on Thursday followed by the 3rd ODI at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 22nd January. The ODI series will be followed by a 3 match T20I series with matches to be played at Kanpur, Nagpur and Bengaluru respectively. The tour will conclude on 1st February.
