Former Pakistan all-rounder Naved ul Hasan took a wonderful hattrick in the highly dramatic final of the inaugural Masters Champions League.

The Arabians batted first and could only post 130/7 after they failed to get going against the disciplined bowling attack of the Lions. However, the Lions were also no different and started off very badly with the Gemini Arabians new-ball attack of Kyle Mills and Graham Onions slicing through the Leo Lions top order of Neil Carter Brendon Taylor and James Franklin. The Lions found themselves three for three after twin strikes from Mills and one from Onions.

Marshall and Lara then led the fight back and played well thereafter to keep the hopes of winning alive for the Lions. But soon, the Arabians got their tempo back. Lara walked out due to a hamstring problem and Hamish Marshall also lost his wicket.

Just an over after Marshall departed, veteran Chanderpaul pulled off a stunner at the boundary line to dismiss Styris. Styris pulled a good length delivery by Murali ferociously towards deep square leg. The ball seemed to be travelling for a boundary until Chanderpaul put a wonderful diving effort to give a massive setback to the Lions’ chase.

However, the highlight of the came in the 16th over when Naved ul Hasan claimed a hat-trick to entirely dash the hopes for the Lions.

The Pakistani pacer broke through the defenses of Botha and then had Heath Streak dismissed leg before. He completed his milestone after cleaning up Lara, who had come out with a limp. After his spell of 4/9, the match was virtually over and the rest of the match looked like a formalities. The team eventually folded and Gemini Arabians won the game by 16 runs.

Naved ul Hasan was adjudged as the ‘Man of the Match’ for his outstanding efforts.
