India’s successful Test record continues to extend as they defeated Bangladesh by 208 runs in the one-off Test at Hyderabad. This win ensured the Indian team reset their longest series winning streak and extended their already longest unbeaten streak to 19 Tests. India’s go-to man of the recent times in the bowling department, R Ashwin, was at his very best yet again. As he admitted himself, he was a bit rusty in the first innings. However, even then he had managed to dismiss two key batsmen in the first innings – Shakib Al Hasan on 82 and Mushfiqur Rahim on 127.
The wicket of Rahim in the first innings took him past 250 wickets and he became the fastest to reach the milestone in Test cricket. The second innings was an even better one as he scalped four wickets to help India seal the match and win the series. One of the very interesting moment of the match came when Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed by R Ashwin. Needless to say, Rahim was Bangladesh’s only hope who could have saved the game, if ever there was a possibility.
He was the team’s leading run-getter in the first innings and a lot of was expected from him. However, in the second innings, he lost his patience and was dismissed by Ashwin yet again. The amazing part about the dismissal was the send off that the offie gave to the Bangladeshi skipper. Ashwin is not usually known for being very animated but this time, even he was right on the money for his celebration.
The moment arrived in the 53rd over when Ashwin saw Rahim dance down the wicket to play an inside out shot. The number one bowler was wise enough to pull the length shot and Rahim miscued it in the air. Ravindra Jadeja completed a simple catch at mid off. Just when Rahim was heading back to the pavilion, R Aswhin waved all around and bid adieu to Rahim in a perfect send off.
