Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja walked out to bat at a tough time when all the specialist batsmen were back in the pavilion and he had bowling partner Ravichandran Ashwin for company. There was a huge ask ahead of them. The team was still in deficit and Jadeja and Ashwin didn’t just have to ensure they overhauled the trail but were also expected to get them a handy lead.

Ashwin couldn’t bat for long and was dismissed in the first session itself on the score of 72. Rookie off-spinner Jayant Yadav who showed he has a stable head on his shoulders with the way he batted in his debut Test joined Jadeja and the duo also had a half-century partnership.

Jadeja scored most of the runs while Jayant rotated the strike well as India extended the lead. The Saurashtra boy soon got to his half century, third in Tests and we all remember the way he celebrated it last time swinging his bat like a sword towards the dressing room. He did that today as well, first with his wrists and then got the left hand, his batting hand into action and swung around like a Rajput warrior would dance his sword.

He is a part of the Rajput race from the northern part of India that has a history of being the most courageous warriors for the country. Jadeja also has Rajput written on his boots and clearly suggests he is in love with the heritage of his race.

On the batting front, he carried on from there with Jayant at the other end and took them into Lunch with a lead over 60 runs. When Jadeja walked out in the second session on the score of 70 it appeared like he was in a hurry to get to his maiden Test century.

He played some really good shots and displayed the aggressive intent, but probably got a bit too enthusiastic when he tried to launch Adil Rashid over long-on for a big shot while there was a fielder in the deep. It didn’t go the distance and he was dismissed for 90, just ten short of what would have been a magnificent century.
