Sanath Jayasuriya is widely recognised as the man who revolutionised batting in the limited overs cricket. It was a no-nonsense devil may care attitude from his side whenever he came out to bat.

Many bowlers have become victims of his brutal batting. One of them was RP Singh when India met Sri Lanka in the 2008 Asia Cup final. The former Sri Lankan skipper and now the chief selector of the country loved facing Indian bowlers and succeeded against them most of the times.

The same was the case that day too. Jayasuriya went blazing against the left-arm medium pacer and clobbered him for 26 runs one over. The Lankans had lost four wickets by the end of 15 overs but the run flow could not be disrupted, thanks to the veteran left hander’s presence at the crease.

The first two balls of the 16th over were safely deposited for maximums straight down the ground. The next two deliveries were hit over mid-off for two more boundaries. He looked merciless. Fortunately, Singh managed to curb him for one delivery. But, that was not the end as Jayasuriya made up for the dot ball with a six off the last delivery.

Aggressive strokeplay and Jayasuriya go hand in hand. It was his batting approach which made him a World Cup hero for Sri Lanka and earned him the Man of the Series award despite having scored significantly less than the top run-getter Aravinda de Silva.
