Watch: Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara batting together: With the Cricket All Stars League getting started in a couple of days to take us back to the good olden days, here we bring you a small trailer of it with the legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara batting together during a charity match in 2006. They featured in International XI side against the Pakistanis at The Oval.
The match was scheduled to be a Twenty20 fixture but due to rain interruption, game turned out to be a 10-over aside and Rahul Dravid led International XI elected to bat. Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara opened the batting and put on a stand of 72 in very quick time before Lara got dismissed by Abdul Razzaq. Lara struck 3 fours and a six in his innings off 32 which came in 21 balls.
Later a cameo off 35 in just 13 balls from MS Dhoni boosted the International XI’s score to 123/1 in just 10 overs along with Sachin who shared an unbeaten stand of 51. Sachin Tendulkar remained unbeaten on 50 off just 26 balls with 8 fours and a six.
However, Pakistanis were on winning side as they chased down the target on the very last delivery thanks to a 41 (12 balls) from Shahid Afridi who hit 5 sixes in his innings and Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq who was unbeaten with a 36 off just 16 balls.
The game raised about 250000 pounds for victims of the October, 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. Along with Lara, Sachin, Dhoni and Dravid, the International XI had Styris, Chris Harris, Andrew Hall, Zaheer Khan, Azhar Mahmood and Chris Cairns.
Given the match wasn’t televised, only a small clipping of the legends batting together is available. Here is the video:
