The Pakistan team finally managed to get its act together in the One-Day International series in the last game to not just salvage some pride but also avoid a clean sweep. England having already won the series 4-0 posted 302 runs batting first. In their reply, Pakistan powered by some solid middle order performance from all-rounder Shoaib Malik and wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed chased down the target with 4 wickets 10 balls to spare. This win will also give the men in green a lot of confidence as they head towards the T20I series against the hosts.

Following the match, PCB in a brief chat with the man of the match Sarfraz asked him about his performance and how the team morale was like after the victory. Talking about his own match winning knock the wicketkeeper said, “First of all I would like to thank the almighty that he gave me the opportunity to play a crucial knock in an important game, I cannot thank him enough for that.”

Terming it a superb comeback by their bowlers to restrict the opposition to a manageable total and praising the team performance he said, “I think it was an overall team effort to win the game. If you see our bowlers, they made a great comeback. At one point we were looking at a target of around 330-340 runs but the way we used the slower balls and the Yorkers in the death overs helped us restrict them under 300. As far as my batting is concerned I walked in at a really crucial point. We had lost two wickets in an over but after that, myself and Shoaib Bhai (Malik) got into a partnership and I am thankful to Allah that on the back of this performance we won the game.”

The team lost the series 4-1 but you won the last game and the T20I series follows soon, so how much will this win help the morale of the team? “(As he started his answer, senior bowler, Umar Gul bumped in, hugged him and bid him good night before walking off) I think it was a really tough series for us. A lot of players were new, they were coming to England for the very first time. Unfortunately, we couldn’t win the series but this win will definitely boost the morale of the team and we hope that we do well in the T20 series.” Said Sarfraz.
