Watch: Shane Warne bowls the ball of the century to Mike Gatting- England v Australia 1993 Ashes: Shane Warne is better known to be the spin wizard or a spin bowling legend, or probably the best leg spinner to have ever played cricket. But he was a rather unknown, untested and unstated bowler and cricketer back in 1993. This incident was almost like an accidental acceptance for many as nobody was expecting this boy from Australia to make piercing difference as Australia toured England to play the Ashes. It was one delivery from Warne that changed entire perception and went on to be termed the ball of the century.

Warne pitched the ball outside Gatting’s leg stump and expecting a turn the batsman was playing on his middle and leg stump. The ball bounced and suddenly decided to change the course of its moment all together. If one goes into details of angular movements it could well have drifted somewhere close to 60 degrees. The ball went on to crash the off stump, the wicket-keeper was elated, jumping with joy, Warne was ecstatic as well. But there was a total contrast in the reaction of the batsman who was shell shocked at what had just happened, Mike Gatting had ghostly expressions on his face.

While all this took place at the strikers end, the guy in his whites with a hat to top things, the Umpire positioned behind Warne had utmost disbelief and unrealistic feelings showing up on his face. This is easily the most deserving delivery to be called the Ball of the Century.
