October 2, the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi the father of the nation was synchronized with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. He proposed it as a mission for the entire nation to work towards a cleaner country.
It was launched on this day in 2014 and it completed two years today. The PM has urged celebrities and the common people to participate and make India clean.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Lieutenant Anurag Thakur who is also a Member of Parliament in the Lok Shaba representing the Bharatiya Janta Party led the Indian Team as they held brooms in hand to clean the stands of the Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata where they are currently playing the 2nd Test against New Zealand.
Thakur also had Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli and opener Shikhar Dhawan for company along with other members of the team.

They did not do it just for the sake but were seen picking up the rubbish and putting it off in the bin. Thakur and the team also checked the ignored spots like under the seats of the spectators to spot rubbish and dispose it off. While all these high profile people individuals were busy cleaning one could see almost the entire Eden Gardens staff along with their personal staff around to assist them.
Though cleaning the ground on one particular day doesn’t change a lot of things but with the big names involved it promises to promote the cause to a wider audience. We all know how efficiently brands utilize the cricketers to promote their products and for once if their popularity, reach and fame comes to the use of the nation will definitely make the initiative a successful one.
