The India v Pakistan fixture broke a series of first. Firstly, for the first time ever, the men and women’s categories from both countries faced off against each other on the same day. Secondly, and more ironically, the men won and the women lost; a completely opposite result for both sides in contrast to their first match. However, this article will aim to keep the focus on the Women’s match.

With the Indians stuttering at 63-4 and barely a few overs to play, the need for big hitting was rather imminent. The difficult yet challenging role fell on the shoulders of Veda Krishnamurthy. Despite taking a bit of time to set herself at the wicket, she was perhaps the only Indian batsman to show some sort of an intent at batting. She took the attack to the opposition with a few hits to the fence. Of the three boundaries she hit, one of them had a bit of comedic and controversial aspect to it.

Pakistan skipper Sana Mir handed the ball to her trusted off-spinner Nida Dar. Veda however, charged down the wicket and slapped the ball straight towards the unguarded mid-wicket fence. Nahida Khan, who was fielding a bit square of mid-wicket made a dart towards the fence in an attempt to prevent it from reaching the boundary. Despite a valiant effort, Nahida failed to stop the ball from reaching the fence. However, in a rather bizarre situation, when the camera froze on the ball that reached the fence, there lay yet another ball, within the field of play, barely centimeters away from what was perceived to be the original one.

To add to the bizarreness of the incident, Sidra Ameen’s trailing leg was behind the boundary line as she threw the ball back to the keeper.
