Umar Akmal is quite clearly one of Pakistan’s best players when it comes to T20 cricket. Having played almost 80 T20 internationals for Pakistan in his short career, the youngest of the Akmal brothers boasts of being the highest run-getter for his country in Twenty20 internationals. However, since his amazing exploits with the Pakistan unit, Umar Akmal since been frozen out of the side with many a new face taking his place on the side.

However, in spite of all this, it is clear that Akmal has not lost any of his phenomenal scoring touches. In the recent match played between the Audionic LHR Whites and the Super Asia Rawalpindi, Umar Akmal lit up the Gaddafi Stadium by smashing 34 runs off just one over from former Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat. The latter more recently was Akmal’s teammate in the World T20that took place earlier this year.

In all capacity, it must be recognised that Arafat is anything but a Mickey Mouse player. He has played in several domestic T20 tournaments around the world including the fact that he is one of the few players to have played T20 cricket in almost six countries across the globe. Therefore, in that capacity, one must certainly commend the fantastic work and achievement of Umar Akmal.

The first four deliveries bowled by Arafat were directed at Akmal’s feet, something that proved to be cannon fodder as far as he was concerned. All of these deliveries were deposited well beyond the mid-wicket fence. The penultimate delivery saw Arafat bang the ball in short and bowl a slower bouncer, something that Akmal turned towards the third-man fence for a boundary. The final delivery of the over saw Akmal smash the ball way into the stands, something that eventually brought up his century as well.
