Umpire Billy Bowden stunned the Pakistanis today after he turned down Rahat Ali’s appeal for caught behind. The incident took place after just couple of overs after the rain-break in the 37th over. Corey Anderson played and missed a cross batted shot off Ali’s bowling. The bowler appealed strongly as soon as the ball was collected by wicket keeper Sarfraz Khan.
However, Bowden seemed to be unsatisfied and gave not out, leaving the Pakistanis surprised. The ‘snicko’ showed that there was a faint edge. Pakistan could not review as they had already exhausted their chances. The upset did not end here as Anderson added salt to the Pakistan’s wound after he smacked two sixes of the following deliveries.
Pakistan was playing the final match of the series against New Zealand at the Eden Park, Auckland. The visitors opted to bat first and managed to post a competitive total of 290 before getting all out.
The Kiwis came out to bat with a target challenging target to chase. After an early setback, Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson led the chase and took the hosts to a formidable position. A couple of quick wickets brought Pakistan back into the game. But the rain interrupted just when Pakistan fancied chance of a victory after being dominated for the most part of the game.
The clash became more interesting after the rain interrupted as it caused the match to be reduced to a 43 overs a side game with New Zealand requiring 53 runs from 45 balls to win. In spite of being 8 runs par the score, the task became little tough for the hosts as previously they needed 83 off 90 deliveries. Fans again began to debate over the complicated mathematical model of the Duckworth-Lewis.
Soon after resuming from the rain break, New Zealand comfortably finished the remaining task and won the match to seal the three-match ODI series 2-0.
