Australia and Pakistan are getting ready to face off in a three-Test series starting December 15. While Australia will have regained some confidence after winning the recent ODI series against New Zealand 3-0 Pakistan have unpleasant memories attached to the same opponent. They lost the Test series to the Black Caps in their backyard 2-0. The opening Test will also mark the first time the Australia’s Usman Khawaja plays against the team that hails from the country of his birth.

Both the teams have reached Brisbane for the first Test and at a pre-match interaction, Khawaja was asked about it. The journalist questioned, ‘A special moment for you playing against the country of your birth for the first time in a Test match?’

Khawaja was quite amused at the question as he didn’t really expect it to pop up and said. “Umm.. I don’t think so, I haven’t really thought about it that way. May be for my parents because they grew up in Pakistan and were there for a long time. Obviously I was born there so it’s a close part of me.”

The answer reminded him of the incident that happened earlier on the same day after the team reached the Gabba and were waiting for the lockers of their changing room to be opened. “Actually funnily enough I was waiting downstairs and I needed the change room locker to be opened for us and I was just waiting and the Queens Land Cricket lady just came down and she’s like.. so I was waiting for the locker rooms to be opened on the left and she came down and she was like oh you wanted the locker rooms to be opened? Yes please.. And she started walking to the Pakistani change room.”

“I was like oh man, it’s that way, thank you.” Khawaja said.
