Sunrisers Hyderabad substitute fielder Vijay Shankar took a spectacular catch at the edge of the boundary in his team’s IPL match against Gujarat Lions played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal in Hyderabad. The incredible effort was produced by the fielder off the first ball of the 15th over of the Lions’ innings. It was a back of a length delivery bowled on the off side by SRH seamer Barinder Sran that got batsman Dwayne Bravo to slog across the line.

The West Indian’s head fell over as he attempted the shot however he managed to connect the ball well. Shankar ran to his left from deep square leg, dived, and pouched the ball even as he tumbled sideways into the ground near the deep midwicket region. He wasn’t in contact with the ad boards, however, the TV umpire was required to confirm it. It was an outstanding effort from Shankar who kept his cool all the way. Bravo was looking set on 18 off 20 balls and his wicket proved important in keeping the Lions in check. The visitors ultimately scored 126/6 courtesy an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls from Aussie Aaron Finch.

A middle-order batsman who can grind attacks and bowl medium-pace, Shankar has established himself as one of the key members of the Tamil Nadu side. His impressive performances for his state team resulted with an India A call-up and he impressed with his all-round show. An understudy at Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, Shankar got just a solitary game over three seasons. He was then bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2016 IPL auction.
