Team India Test skipper Virat Kohli is having a merry time on the field. The dynamic young leader seems to be putting no step wrong in the last few months. A minor blip for the Delhi batsman came in the final Test against England. The blip was definitely not a major one and one can say that Kohli deserves to get away with it. However, the tiny error saw India handover 5 runs to the English total.

As per the rules of cricket, if the ball hits the helmet of the fielding side, then a penalty of 5 runs must be added to the batting unit’s score. This is exactly what perspired when Virat threw one down straight to the helmet placed near the wicket keeper.

It was India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowling in the 24th over of the final Test on day one. The third delivery of the over was a tossed up one. English batsman Joe Root misread it and managed to get an inside on his bat. The ball beat the wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel who found himself in no position to gather the ball. The ball kept rolling in the direction of the fine leg.

A very committed Virat Kohli ran behind the ball and gave some serious chase. A slide and a pick up is what followed. Kohli quickly got rid of the ball and threw it back in the direction of the wicketkeeper.

Unluckily though, the ball crashed straight into the helmet and England were awarded 5 runs to their kitty. Kohli was certainly disappointed but showed no anger on the occasion. He carried a grin on his face and was left bemused at what he just did. The official social media handle of the Indian cricket team posted the video of the same on the social media.

With an intended pun, they wrote, “That’s a direct hit – not at the stumps, on the helmet… Can this man miss anything at all? Virat Kohli’s rocket throw hits bang on the helmet.” The day, on the whole belonged to England. Riding on half centuries from Joe Root and century from Moeen Ali, England managed to put on 284/4 by the end of the day’s play. For the Indian team, it was Ravindra Jadeja who emerged as the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets to his name.
