The Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Wahab Riaz is known for his pace and aggressive fast bowling. He consistently bowls around 145kmph and is adept at bowling hostile spells even on flat pitches. Like many former great fast bowlers of Pakistan, Wahab also possesses a potent yorker which can be extremely difficult for a batsman to negotiate. Accurate and fast, batsmen get little time to get their bat down on time to block the delivery.
In the 5th ODI of a 6-match series away to New Zealand, Wahab has produced a thunderbolt and the batsman, James Franklin, did well to protect his toes. Clocked at 143kph the ball hit the base of middle and off stumps. Franklin moved his feet to the leg side and played all over it, mostly in a hope that he may somehow get his bat to the ball, but the stumps were crashed which brought about celebrations from Wahab and his team-mates. His spell of 3/51 helped Pakistan win the match by 41 runs thereby taking an inaccessible lead of 3-1 in the series.
Wahab has played 67 ODIs and taken 93 wickets at 30.49. His most memorable spells include the 5/46 against India at Mohali in the 2015 World Cup semi-final and 2/54 against Australia in the quarterfinal of the 2015 edition.
The latter was the spell of the tournament in which he troubled all Aussie batsmen with a hostile spell and made them smell the leather. He was highly unlucky as some dropped catches off his bowling cost Pakistan the match. He continues to be a regular member of the national team in all 3 formats.
