The impressive West Indies win over India in the semifinal of the World T20 was impressive on more levels than one. As many experts called it, it was perhaps the ‘perfect’ T20 game on a big stage. Although Virat Kohli weaved magic yet again with the bat, it was the impressive Lendl Simmons who effectively won the game for the West Indies with a smash ‘n’ grab innings. Interestingly, Simmons was expected to watch the World T20 from his home at Trinidad before being pulled out of oblivion to do battle as the Windies faced the might of the Indians at the Wankhede wicket.
Following their narrow win, the West Indies players, led by Darren Sammy and Dwayne Bravo came out of the team but with hands in the air. This particular dance move was seen early on in the tournament when the West Indies took on England in their first group encounter. Although the familiar foes will face up to each other in the World T20 final at Kolkata, the Wankhede chapter belonged to Chris Gayle. The latter slammed a magnificent century as the Windies, his second in World T20s. Gayle did the ‘Champion’ dance on the field of play, signaling to the Dwayne Bravo in the bench who returned the move.
