Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has appreciated the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s decision of appointing Faf du Plessis as the captain of the team in IPL 2022 as he praised his leadership skills.
The Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach also reckoned that RCB was one of his favorites for the title before the IPL 2022 started. The 40-year-old said that he had given a thumbs up to the decision of appointing du Plessis as captain from right at the time of mega auctions.
To note, RCB has had a good campaign so far in IPL 2022, as after winning eight matches out of 14 games in the league stage, the team qualified into the playoffs where they defeated KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants by 14 runs to get into the Qualifier 2, in which they will take on the Rajasthan Royals.
Faf du Plessis is a great guy and a very good leader: Shane Watson
“Even before this tournament started, RCB was one of my favorites because of how well they did in the auction and how well-balanced their squad they were able to put together was. Faf du Plessis, that was a great buy for them,” Watson said on the Grade Cricketer Podcast.
“Because knowing that Virat was going to step down, Faf was probably was one of the only few players I think was going to do a brilliant job to know how to get the best out of Virat as not the captain and sort of know-how to steer the franchise into the right direction,” Watson said.
“It was tactically a brilliant decision to get Faf involved and lead. He is a great guy and a very good leader. Very compassionate, caring, and empathetic guy. He was always going to do a good job and combine that with Kohli, Maxwell, and Hazlewood,” he further stated.
