Cricket fans woke up to a sad piece of news on Sunday (December 26) morning as former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar’s mother passed away. The ex-cricketer took to Twitter and informed about the demise of his mother. Reports in Pakistan media stated that the health of Shoaib’s mother deteriorated and she was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she couldn’t survive.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers will be held in Islamabad’s sector H-8, as stated by the pacer in the post. As soon as the unfortunate piece of news broke out, condolences came in from different corners. Several members of the cricket fraternity including Harbhajan Singh and Shoaib Malik also expressed grief.

Speaking of Akhtar’s Twitter post, he wrote: “My mother, my everything, with the will of Allah taala, has left for heavenly abode. Namaz e janaza will be in H-8 after Asar Prayers,” wrote Akhtar. Needless to mention, the comment section got flooded in no time as fans were saddened after coming across the development.

Cricket fraternity saddened by Shoaib Akhtar’s mother’s demise

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who’s known to share a great bond with Akhtar, was one of the first to offer support to the former Pakistan paceman. “Just wanted to reach out and let you know that you have my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. May she rests in peace. Be strong my brother. Waheguru Mehar kare,” tweeted the spinner, who recently announced retirement from all forms of international cricket.

Akhtar’s former Pakistan teammate Shoaib Malik also offered condolences. “We all are with you in this difficult time brother. May the Almighty grant her the highest rank in jannah,” tweeted the veteran all-rounder.

Meanwhile, Akhtar, who holds the record of bowling the fastest delivery in international cricket, 161.3 kmph, was nothing short of nightmares for batters during his playing days. Be it unsettling batters with a vicious bouncer or shattering the stumps with a toe-crushing yorker, the 45-year-old had many weapons in his arsenal.

He bid farewell to international cricket post the 2011 World Cup but not before claiming 444 wickets in 224 international matches. The ex-pacer is an active commentator and analyst nowadays, who often makes headlines with his controversial statements.
