"The team's functioning quite well, it's just about how we get those incremental gains because that sustained success is what England's craving," Mott also said.

England’s white-ball coach Matthew Mott has stated that both he and skipper Eoin Morgan are “very aligned” in their general philosophy. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the arrival of Matthew Mott earlier this month in a four-year agreement. He is expected to be present for England’s three-match ODI series in Amsterdam next month.

Mott has a rich history with the Australian Women’s team as they have won two consecutive ICC T20 World Cups (2018 and 2020) under his coaching. They have won the recently concluded ICC Women’s 50-Over World Cup 2022 as well.  Under him, Australia women’s team has also won 26 consecutive One Day International matches, which is a record across men’s and women’s games. He also helped them to remain undefeated in the four Ashes Series.

The team’s functioning quite well: Matthew Mott

“We (Morgan and I) seem very aligned on our general philosophy and how we think the team should play, but it’ll be nice just having the opportunity in the playing group to talk a little bit more to that, and answer any questions, and just develop that connection,” he told cricket.com.au.

“The team’s functioning quite well, it’s just about how we get those incremental gains because that sustained success is what England’s craving. They’re pretty comfortable that they’ve got a good team and good depth but trying to compete in every tournament is what they want to do. Hopefully, the experiences I’ve had with what we’ve done (with Australia) might be able to just add another layer to that,” he added.

The ECB’s selection panel including Tom Harrison, Rob Key, Andrew Strauss and Mo Bobat agreed together that Mott was the standout candidate for the role. Mott had also previous coaching experience for New South Wales. He led them to the victory in the Champions League T20 tournament in 2009. He also worked as a consultant for Ireland during their 2015 ICC Men’s World Cup.
