Pakistan batter Umar Akmal’s father Mohammad Akmal Siddique is ill and currently hospitalized in a local hospital in Pakistan. The wicketkeeper-batter shared this information through a tweet on the micro-blogging site on June 27 (Monday). Even though Akmal did not share much about the condition of his father, he wrote that he and his family are going through a tough phase right now.

Akmal, who has not represented Pakistan since 2019, has indulged himself in the domestic circuit and has played several match-winning knocks for his team. The right-handed batter played his last match against Sri Lanka in October 2019 but did not get any further chance to represent his nation.

It must be noted that Akmal’s family has immensely contributed to the Pakistan cricket team. Apart from Umar, his two brothers Kamran Akmal and Adnan Akmal have also represented their country and now his cousin Babar Azam is leading Pakistan across formats.

Umar Akmal arrived on the international scene in August 2009, when he made his debut against Sri Lanka in an ODI series. In the same year, Umar also made his debut in T20I and Test format in the same year as well. Over the years, Umar played some memorable knocks for his country and he looked comfortable against both pace and spin.

Talking about his numbers in the international arena, the 32-year-old has played 121 ODI matches and has scored 3194 runs at an average of 34.34. He also stroked 20 fifties and two hundred in the format. In T20Is, he has played 84 matches and amassed 1690 runs at an average of 26.00 with his highest being 94 runs.

In the red-ball format, Umar has played 16 matches and stroked 1003 runs at an average of 35.82. He has made six fifties and one hundred in the longest format of the game.
