'We as role models in the world must be careful of our words' - Trent Boult on player's conduct at top level

If there is one board in cricket that is in the major firing line at the moment, then it has definitely got to be the England Cricket Board (ECB). After they suspended Ollie Robinson for his unsavory racist and sexist comments, reports have now resurfaced regarding various other players who have been involved in such historic activities in the past.

Apparently, ECB has got hold of an unnamed player whose identity is currently sealed. The said player’s case is very similar to that of Robinson and he too had posted the tweets when he was a teenager. Recently, England’s premier bowler James Anderson spoke about how players need to be educated from the Robinson controversy and move on from it by emerging as better individuals.

While Anderson supported it, former England opening batter Michael Carberry backed ECB in imposing punishment on Robinson stating that racism should not be encouraged at any age. Now, Trent Boult, the veteran New Zealand bowler spoke in length about it in a short video clip on Sky Sports.

Boult who has been included in the squad for the second Test against England feels as a top-level athlete it is the responsibility of all players to conduct themselves in a certain manner. The left-arm pacer also spoke about how the players are leaders and they should be certainly very careful about what they are putting out.

Boult concluded by saying that the young kids look up to them as role models and act accordingly, it is a tricky one but the players should be more cautious on how they approach certain things. The left-arm pacer was last seen in action for Mumbai Indians in the 14^th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After that, Boult requested for a break before he could be fresh for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship Final (WTC) against India.

The 31-year-old pacer is one of the team’s important members of the bowling unit along with Tim Southee. It was Boult’s spell that derailed India’s run-chase in the semis of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and he would certainly look to inflict the same in the marquee clash against India starting on June 18.
