The ongoing series between India and Windies has been quite a thrilling series to watch. Unlike the Test matches which was a one-sided affair, the One-Dayers have been really intriguing. With the series currently 2-1 in India’s favour, it’s still quite open with the final match to be played in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Windies fielding coach Nic Pothas praised skipper Jason Holder for his brilliant captaincy. Pothas also appreciated the batting prowess in the Indian team. He asserted that the series against India has been a great learning curve for the young side. He also spoke about how the current bunch looked forward to keep improving as a unit.

We don’t just play against India, we learn from them too

Pothas spoke highly about the No.2 ranked ODI team. He stated that it was a good exposure for the youngsters to play against a team of this caliber. The former South African player cited the tour of India as a parameter to judge themselves in various roles.

“They’re a great team to learn from. We don’t just play against India, we learn from them too. These are great opportunities when you come and play against teams of this quality. Travelling to India is always a wonderful tour. It’s a great tour to judge yourself as a player and as a coach. It’s a great place to let yourself know where exactly you’re at with your cricket,” Pothas was quoted as saying by TOI.

Other than Rohit, Kohli, India has some fantastic players

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have amassed a lot of runs in the ongoing series. While the skipper scored three back to back centuries, Rohit too has scored above 150 twice. However, Pothas didn’t forget to mention the contributions of Ambati Rayudu as well as Shikhar Dhawan. The fielding coach kept mum when asked about any plans for them.

“Look, if I had special plans, which I do, I’m certainly not going to put them out in the media. But having said that, they’re world-class cricketers. You can’t go without mentioning guys like Shikhar Dhawan. Rayudu is in form. Lots of fantastic players – that’s what you get with such a strong team,” he told.

The Windies are very positive and getting better all the time

Describing the Caribbeans as a young unit, he felt that they were learning from each game they played. While he conceded that it was not an easy task, the Windies were getting really better. The players have been quite open to learning and the environment in the dressing room has been quite positive.

“It is a very young team. Not just from an international point of view but a volume of 50-over cricket point of view.  Our guys are learning all the time and they’re having to learn at international level, which is never easy. But they’re getting better all the time and importantly they’re open to that learning. We’re very positive,” he added
