After the defeat against Australia by 8 wickets in the first Test in Adelaide, Team India will be looking forward to making a comeback in the second game, starting from December 26 in Melbourne. The visiting nation will be without the services of their skipper Virat Kohli as he is on paternity leave, thus the whole responsibility of scoring runs will be on the shoulders of Cheteshwar Pujara.

Pujara was the architect behind India’s success in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2018-19 against Australia by 2-1 as he was the highest run-getter with 521 runs to his name in 4 Test matches. However, the top-order batsman didn’t get the desired start this year against Australia as in the Day-Night Test, he could score only 43 and 0 runs respectively across two innings.

Speaking about the mainstay of India’s batting line-up Pujara, Australian spinner Nathon Lyon revealed that the hosts have made a lot of plans for the batsman as taking his wicket is a challenge and priority for Australia. Lyon reckoned that the team is happy that they could execute their plans against Pujara successfully in the first Test but they have a couple more things stored in for him.

Nathan Lyon opines on Cheteshwar Pujara

“I can’t reveal secrets, to be honest with you. But, obviously, Pujara is a world-class batter and he is going to be a big challenge for us for the rest of the series,” 33-year-old Lyon said at a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

“We spoke about him (Pujara) in depth before the series started, it was good to see a couple of plans come off in Adelaide, but we have got a couple more things,” he added.

Further, Nathon Lyon, who is just nine wickets away from reaching the remarkable mark of 400 wickets in the Test format, asserted that he loves bowling against top batsmen like Pujara and hopes that he can take his wicket in the coming games.

“So, hopefully, if he does get in, we can put into ploy…it is always fun challenging yourself against the best players in the world and Pujara is definitely one of those guys,” Lyon concluded.
