South Africa is always a dangerous team to play and the opposition is wary of one guy- AB de Villiers. AB de Villiers is the most destructive limited overs batsman and can literally smash bowlers all-round the park when on song. For any opposition de Villiers is always a ‘threat’ and Australian skipper Steven Smith also feels the same.
Australia is all set to take on the Proteas in a three match T20I series starting Friday in their home. The two boards have planned the series strategically, in order to help their team’s prepare for the ICC World Twenty20 that begins in India later this month.
This factor will obviously be back of the mind for both teams. Smith, however, is also focusing on how to counter the ‘360-degree’ AB de Villiers.
“He is one of the most destructive, if not the most destructive, batsmen in the world,” Smith said talking to the reporters on Monday.
“He hits the ball 360 degrees when he is going. We’re going to have a few plans in place that will hopefully work. He’s a terrific player and very hard to stop…an absolutely quality player in all formats of the game,” Smith said.
When probed if he has put some specific plans in place, the Australian captain said the best way to stop AB de Villiers is to get rid of him early.
“If he gets going, he’s extremely hard to stop. We’re going to have to come up with a few things to make sure he doesn’t get started.”
Well, it’s not an easy job to get him out but let’s hope that Smith’s plan to contain the de Villiers works out successfully.
