Bangladesh suffered a humiliating 240-run defeat at the hands of their neighbor India on Tuesday at Kennington Oval, London. Opting to bowl first, Bangladesh picked up two early wickets. But Dinesh Karthik and Shikhar Dhawan constructed a solid partnership. Karthik scored 94 runs and Dhawan got 60. Pandya’s Blitzkrieg towards the end of the innings helped India to get 324 runs on the scoreboard.

Coming out to bat, Bangladeshi batters were all over the places. They had no answer to the fearsome Indian pace attack. Ultimately, they were bowled out for just 84 runs. Bangladeshi captain Mashrafe Mortaza was not playing the warm-up game and Shakib Al Hasan took up the responsibilities. He was dejected after the shocking loss and felt that nothing has gone in place for the Tigers.

“Everything went wrong. We just tried too many things today. The bowling did okay. With the batting department certainly not an ideal way to get into the tournament. Before this game the batters had a good time in England and Ireland. Some of our guys who have played here before do know what to do. We cannot control the weather. We hope to do well in all departments of the game,” said the disappointed World No. 1 all-rounder.

Virat Kohli is ecstatic after the thumping victory

While it is only cries and anguish for the Bangladeshi skipper, his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli was ecstatic after the win. “Very pleased. We got what we wanted in both the games. Last game as well, the bowlers did a fantastic job. As soon as the cloud cover comes in, it becomes increasingly difficult for the batsmen. Not taking anything from our bowlers. But it gets very difficult. Fielding has been good, catching has been good. All bases are covered. We have ticked all the boxes going into the tournament.” said India’s most popular athlete.

To clear the playing XI dilemma of the fans, he said that Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya are expected to be the lower-order batters for India. “We back Kedhar and Hardik to do it for us down the order. Hardik was outstanding. Jadeja also played with composure,” said Kohli. He praised Karthik for his innings by saying “Dinesh is an outstanding player. We just wanted to give him an extended run.”
