It was party time for Team India in Bengaluru on Sunday night as the Men in Blue pulled off a clinical performance on the night of the series-decider to script a memorable come-from-behind 2-1 win over Aaron Finch-led Australians. After having suffered a ten-wicket mauling at the hands of the Aussies in the first game, Team India showed just why they are one of the best sides’ going around in world cricket.
Coming back from a ten-wicket shellacking- especially against the Aussies in your home backyard- is never easy. But, Team India showed their mental strength, the unrelenting desire to script a comeback as they knocked over the Kangaroos in Rajkot and then in Bengaluru in the series decider by seven wickets to avenge the heartbreaking 2-3 defeat that they had suffered on home soil last year.
The occasion called for a celebration and Virat Kohli made sure he didn’t miss out on a well-deserved opportunity. The Indian captain was joined by her actress wife Anushka Sharma, who had flown to Bengaluru on Sunday to be with Virat post the series decider. The duo was joined by another star couple- Indian Football team captain Sunil Chhetri and his wife- as the couples celebrated India’s win together.
Chhetri’s wife Sonam took to Instagram to share the photos of them together with a heartfelt caption, where she wrote, “No phones (till we picked one up for this picture), no glance at the clock. Just four such different people speaking about everything under the sun. Was lovely hosting the two of you for dinner. You two are all kinds of wonderful!”

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were on song on the night of the series-decider
Coming back to the game, India’s superstar duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again showed why they are the two all-time great white-ball batsman from all times. The duo stitched a crucial 137-run-stand for the second wicket to suck the life out of Australia’s bowling attack.
Speaking about the partnership with Rohit, Virat said, “We’re quite experienced, Rohit and I, and we were short of Shikhar’s experience. We got a good start. We expect openers of the quality of Rohit and KL to give us starts like that. When KL got out it was a tricky situation.
The ball was gripping and turning a bit, and this is where experience comes in. We spoke of stringing together a partnership and all Australia want are wickets and if we don’t give them wickets we can chase 7-8 runs an over later on. We have that belief in our skill. Rohit played beautifully today, anchored the innings before I took over. It’s how we have played in the last 4-5 years.”
Following the 2-1 series win against Australia, Team India doesn’t have much time to rest on their laurels as Kohli’s men will soon be in New Zealand where they will lock horns with Kane Williamson’s men for a five-match T20I series, starting January 24 in Auckland.
