Bangladesh won the 1st T20I against Team India and got off to a great start to their tour but ended up losing the three-match series by 2-1. And, Nazmul Hassan Papon, the President of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) thinks that the team should have done better and sealed the series against the hosts.

The visitors shocked Rohit and Co. by winning the series opener that was played in Delhi by a margin of seven wickets. However, they faced defeats in back to back games played in Rajkot, followed by the series decider in Nagpur. In the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, who is the best all-rounder of the team, Tigers performed well but couldn’t grab their first-ever series win over Team India.

BCB President, Papon feels that their team was ahead in the series decider that was played in Nagpur till 12th over. But, after the departure of the senior batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, the batting line-up collapsed in front of Indian bowlers. He also added that the Mahmudullah and Co. played well, although the defeat was not expected from them in such conditions.

“We should have won the match because we were ahead till 12th over. I always thought we would win. After Mushfiq’s departure we realized, wickets fell in pairs. Two wickets in successive two balls, this is never the case. If you think about it, you are lost. This is cricket, nothing to say. It cannot be said that they played poorly, but it was not what we expected.” BCB chief said as quoted by BDCrictime.

The BCB president also recited that because this was the first-ever series against Team India , so no one had expected such a competitive series. “We didn’t play any series against India before. Many of the Indians I sat with today did not even imagine that there would be such a competitive series with Bangladesh,” he added.

Now, both the teams are gearing up for the upcoming two-match Test series that will start from 14th of November in Indore at Holkar Cricket Stadium. And, the second match of the series which will be a Day-Night affair is scheduled to take place in Kolkata at Eden Gardens.
