There have been several rumours of a rift between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The ‘Hitman’ was made the captain of the Indian side in ODI cricket ahead of India’s tour of South Africa.

And now, former Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has offered his opinion on the Kohli-Rohit issue. Gavaskar feels that unless both Kohli and Sharma themselves open up on this matter, people should not jump to any conclusion.

Gavaskar also added that former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin had hinted that there might be a rift between the two cricketing powerhouses, and opined that if Azharuddin has any information, then he should reveal it to the cricketing world.

“The question is, ‘is there anything simmering at all (between Kohli and Rohit)?’ Unless both the players come out with something, we should not jump to conclusions. Yes, Azharuddin has said something but if he has got some inside information about what has happened then he should be coming out and telling us what happened,” said Sunil Gavaskar as quoted by India Today.

Both Kohli and Rohit have served Indian cricket brilliantly: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar also added that till there is a concrete proof of a rift, he will give the benefit of the doubt to both Kohli and Sharma. Adding that both these icons have served the game in brilliant fashion, Gavaskar concluded by stating that without having information, it is not right to point fingers at them.

“Till then, I will give the benefit of the doubt to both the players. Because both have served Indian cricket brilliantly and I don’t think it is fair at all for any one of us, without having exact information, to be pointing fingers at either of them,” concluded Gavaskar.

India’s tour of South Africa will begin on 26th December 2021, with the Boxing Day Test match that will be played at Centurion.
