After securing five back-to-back victories, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have sustained three losses on the trot in Indian Premier League 2022. In their last league match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Brabourne Stadium, they failed to achieve a target of 208 runs and lost the game by 21 runs. The key reasons for these losses are the bowlers finishing up with expensive figures and inexperienced lower-middle order. The SRH captain Kane Williamson spoke at a post-match conference after the loss to DC.

Williamson hailed the knocks from DC batters, David Warner (92* off 58) and Rovman Powell (67* off 35), and felt that the partnership between them certainly made a difference at the end of the game. He reckoned that it was a fantastic total by the opposition, but the batting unit of SRH had the belief to chase down the total. However, the top-order batters failed to contribute to the team, including the captain as well. However, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran continued their good form and gave a ray of hope to the team.

On being asked about Markram and Pooran, Williamson reckoned that they have been in fantastic rhythm in the tournament, but needed someone to build partnerships around them to secure a victory for the team.

“We were put under pressure a lot in that first half and allowed them to get an above-par total. An outstanding knock from David Warner and Powell at the end, two great contributions that went a long way toward them winning the game,” said Williamson in a post-match conference.

“I think they had a fantastic total at the halfway stage. Having said that, as a batting unit you want belief and there was a lot of belief. They’ve [Markram and Pooran] come out and played with that rhythm that they’ve had throughout this whole competition, which has been amazing for us in the middle order,” he added.

You always want more runs: Kane Williamson on his form

In the ongoing season, Williamson has managed to score only 199 runs in ten innings at a strike rate of 96.13. He reckoned that he surely wants more runs under his belt and is working hard to contribute to the team. The SRH captain’s last three scores are read as 4, 47, and 5, which depict the inconsistency to provide a good start to the team.

“You always want more runs. I’m certainly working hard and trying to play a role for the team, staying patient and committed to my own game. It’s one of those things. Every team is strong. It’s just committing to what’s important and trying to make contributions to the team moving forward,” said the SRH captain.
