Australia head coach Justin Langer’s tenure is coming to an end next year, and even though Langer is keen to extend his contract, the CEO of Cricket Australia, Nick Hockley, has not guaranteed that Langer will be offered an extension of his contract.
Hockley also stated that Langer has done a fantastic job as the coach of the Australian side, and added that the way the Aussies have performed in the first 2 Ashes Test matches stands testimony to the same.
Hockley added that the Australian side was always focused on two major events this year, the 2021 T20 World Cup as well as The Ashes series against England. Hockley also revealed that Australia are focused on The Ashes at the moment.
“I think JL, I think the whole square are doing a fantastic job. We’ve seen that through the performances of the first couple of Tests. We always said we’re going to be really focused on the two upcoming campaigns – the T20 World Cup and the T20 team did fabulously to bring that trophy home, and same for the Ashes – I know JL, I know the team, they are very, very focused on this series,” said Nick Hockley as quoted by Fox Sports.
Justin Langer will see out his contract: Nick Hockley
Nick Hockley also added that Justin Langer will serve his contract period as the head coach of the Australian cricket team. Hockley concluded by stating that the Aussies will once again review their progress when The Ashes comes to an end.
“There’s no question Justin will see out his contract that goes through to the middle of next year. There’s a tour of Pakistan and there’s a lot of great cricket coming up, but as I said we’ll sit down and review where we are at the end of the Ashes,” concluded Nick Hockley.
