India’s tour of Australia 2020-21 will possibly go down as one of the most memorable tours in the history of Indian cricket. Team India under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane won the final Test and kept the honours of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Sunil Gavaskar, one of the cricket legends in whose honour this series is played, was in Australia during the entire tour.

The former cricketer was in the country as he had signed up for a commentary stint with Channel 7, the official broadcasters of the series in Australia. On his return to the country, the batting legend revealed what was Brian Lara’s reaction in the aftermath of the Indian win.

Gavaskar in a recent interaction said that the former West Indian batsman was there at the farewell party on channel 7 where the two shared a moment. Gavaskar said that Lara came to him and hugged and expressed his happiness of India’s win. Lara was also one of the commentators on the tour.

“We won, we won” – Brian Lara said to Gavaskar after India’s historic win

“At the Channel 7 farewell party on the last day, I walked around the room with my glass raised, and every Australian there cheered. Then Brian Charles Lara (fellow commentator during the series) came, hugged me, and screamed, ‘We won, we won’. What a series!” said Gavaskar in an interview with the Times of India. He also added that the former West Indies player also said “Will Cherish these memories for whatever is left of my life. I am still over the moon and still in orbit!”

After being 0-1 down in the series, India had lost their skipper Virat Kohli. He had flown back to India for the birth of his first child. In the first match, India recorded their lowest total ever in a Test. But the team made an astounding comeback by winning the subsequent Test.

After that, they drew the third Test in the most unlikely circumstances while batting more than 130 overs in the fourth innings. Finally, having lost their entire bowling unit to injuries during the series, Indians surprised everyone. They went on to win the final Test and clinched the series 2-1.
