Back in 2019, India had a bit of a torrid time in T20Is, losing quite a few matches, especially while defending targets. But in 2020, India have made a superlative start to their campaign in the shortest format of the game. To start with, the Men in Blue rolled over Sri Lanka by 2-0 at home. And after the dominating show, India have carried over the momentum in New Zealand as well.

Virat Kohli’s men didn’t find it much tough in toppling the Black Caps at the Eden Park in Auckland. In the first game, they had to chase down in excess of 200, but they did it will an over to spare. In the third match of the series at the Seddon Park in Hamilton, India had the work out of their skins. After a lot of twists and turns in the 40 overs, the encounter went into the Super Over.

Both teams were locked on 179 runs and the game was set for a thrilling finish. In the end, Rohit Sharma smacked Tim Southee for a couple of sixes in the one-over eliminator to seal the fate of the contest. With the victory, the visitors also took an unassailable lead in the series. It also meant that the fourth and penultimate T20I at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington, was a dead rubber.

In the meantime, during the match, there was a section of the Indian fans, who were missing MS Dhoni. The supporters came to the venue with a banner, which read, “We miss you Dhoni” The official Twitter handle of the BCCI uploaded the picture with the caption “Just fan things. #NZvIND”

Dhoni on a sabbatical

Dhoni hasn’t played any cricket since the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against the Kiwis at the Old Trafford in Manchester. There have been constant reports of his return, but nothing concrete just yet. It’s also not known where or not he will be available for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Amidst the chaos, speculations surrounding when the 38-year-old will be hanging his boots have also been doing the rounds. However, Dhoni is most likely to ply his trade in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the T20 tournament, Dhoni plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
