It was a thorough team effort in the bowling department that saw the Mumbai Indians manage to eke out a thrilling narrow 1 wicket win over the Rising Pune Supergiant in the finals of the IPL 2017. Coming into the game, MI were definitely not the favorites since they had lost on all three occasions when they played against RPS this season. Wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel reflected back at the win and cherished the moments soon after the game.

In a conversation with iplt20.com, Parthiv Patel noted that veteran pacer Mitchell Johnson brought all his experience to best use in the match when it was needed the most. Coming into the final over, the stage was set for a close finish. Rising Pune Supergiant needed only 11 to win off the last over with Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwary batting at the crease.

Mitch Johnson had the task of defending 11 in the final over. He did an excellent job by giving away only 9 runs to finish the game for his side as MI registered a 1 run win in the finals. It was a beautifully written script that saw fairy tale ending for the Mumbai Indians. Parthiv quipped that the two wickets in succession in the final over showed the class Johnson has with the ball.

“It was brilliant (cricket). Mitchell Johnson has been bowling really well. With a couple of wickets (Tiwary and Smith were dismissed off successive balls), the game came (turned) in our favor,” said Parthiv Patel.

Pressure situations

He, however, admitted that the pressure was on Mumbai Indians when Tiwary had hit a four on the first ball of the final over. It was after that when Johnson pulled things back with two quick wickets and some wrecked yorkers to follow.

“We were definitely under pressure after Tiwary had hit the first ball for four. But that’s where I think experience comes in (to play),” conceded Parthiv.
