South Africa is blamed by their fans for their poor performance against Team India. Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis also accepted the fact and felt that this tour has left them with “mental scars” due to their lack of vision before coming to India. This was the first time they were without the services of senior players like Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn on the subcontinent pitches.
The host ruthlessly demolished and exposed the voids in the visitors’ team. The only instance when Proteas looked a bit close against India was in Vizag. But after that, they seriously struggled in every aspect of the game.
Faf du Plessis blames Cricket South Africa
After the conclusion of a horrific tour, South Africa‘s skipper Faf du Plessis blamed the SA domestic structure. He feels that the management had no future idea after greats like Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers retired, “It shows that our structures are not where they need to be. The gap between domestic cricket and International cricket. If you look back three or four years and if someone had the vision of saying, in three or four years’ time there will be a lot of inexperienced guys. A lot of 34, 35, 36-year-olds could possibly retire. So what do you do to make sure you get yourself ready for when that time comes,” the skipper said as quoted by Mid-Day.
He also recited that it is just relentless the way hosts played the bowlers that effected our batting line up mentally and left us with scars, “A tour like this reveals that there’s a lot of mental scars that can happen and then obviously it’s difficult to come out of that hole. It’s just a relentless, ruthlessness the way they put big totals on the board every time. The effect it has on you mentally as a batting lineup, it takes a lot of energy and it takes a lot of tolls and that’s why you could see towards the end our batting was mentally weak,” he added.
South Africa faced a humiliating clean sweep against India by 3-0.
