West Indies have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming tours of Netherlands and Pakistan where they will get to play three ODIs in each of the countries. Both series will be part of the ICC ODI Super League and this will also be the first time that West Indies and the Netherlands will play a bilateral series against each other. The three ODIs against the Netherlands will be played on May 31, June 2 and 4 respectively.

The Netherlands series will be followed by the three ODIs in Pakistan at the Pindi Stadium starting from June 8 and will end by June 12. One of the notable names missing out in the squad has been Jason Holder, who is rested to manage workload while Shimron Hetymer who has been in supreme form isn’t available for selection. This will be the first assignment for Nicholas Pooran as the full-time captain as Kieron Pollard recently retired from international cricket.

We were impressed with Carty and the way he goes about his innings: Desmond Haynes

Fast bowlers Jayden Seales and Shermon Lewis as well as specialist batter Keacy Carty all were the new names included in the squad. Desmond Haynes noted that watching Carty’s abilities prompted him to select the batter and added that he deserved an opportunity to shine at the bigger stages. West Indies lost their previous ODI series against India 0-3 in the month of February this year.

“We were impressed with Carty and the way he goes about his innings, we saw several glimpses of his ability the way he played against England earlier this year for the CWI President’s XI. We hope that giving him this opportunity he will recognize the importance of representing West Indies. We think he is a young batsman with great promise, and this is the kind of tour he can show he fits in,” Lead Selector, Dr Desmond Haynes said as quoted by Windiescricket.com

West Indies ODI squad: Nicholas Pooran (Captain), Shai Hope (Vice Captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Shamarh Brooks, Keacy Carty, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Shermon Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Anderson Phillip, Rovman Powell, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr.
