Barbados-born Miguel Cummins is all set to play his debut Test series for the national side West Indies. He will replace the recently retired pacer Jerome Taylor for the first Test in the 13-man squad against India at Antigua. Cummins was a part of West Indies’ squad which toured Australia in 2015 but did not play any of the three Tests.

He last played for West Indies in a One-Day International against Ireland in 2014, which was also his debut ODI series. The Windies squad led by Jason Holder for the first of four-match Test series was announced on July 11.

West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) in its press release stated, ”The selection panel of the West Indies Cricket Board today named fast bowler Miguel Cummins as the replacement for Jerome Taylor in the 13-member squad to face India in the upcoming first Test match against India.”

Miguel Cummins has played 41 first-class innings for his team Barbados and picked up 116 wickets at an average of 22.56. He also has 6 five-wicket hauls and six four-wicket hauls to his credit with 7/45 being the best bowling figures. However, his ODI debut game was expensive as he conceded 42 runs and took 1 wicket in the 6 overs that he bowled.

Earlier on Tuesday, West Indies paceman Jerome Taylor announced his abrupt retirement from the longest format of the game. However, will continue playing limited-overs cricket.

With the first Test scheduled to begin from July 21. Skipper Jason Holder said, “It’s going to be a tough series. India is ranked number 2 for a reason. They have a quality batting line-up and a quality bowling attack as well. It will be a tough challenge for this young Test team.”
