The 1st ODI of this 5-match series produced unbelievable fireworks. When the “Universe Boss” smashed his way to 135, the Barbados locals cheered themselves hoarse. Very few would have given England a chance of chasing a mammoth 360. But Jason Roy and Joe Root had other ideas and produced a befitting and stunning reply.

If anything, the 1st ODI was a fantastic curtain raiser. With 4 ODIs to go, one can only image the kind of firepower that both sides can unleash. With the World Cup fast approaching, both teams are looking to gel as a unit and every game is priceless in terms of collective experience.

Team news – Windies

The hosts will be disappointed at not being able to defend 360. While the track did play true, Jason Holder will be livid for having let this one slip. He will think of playing Kemar Roach in place of Shane Thomas.

On the batting front, the West Indies are well endowed with the likes of Darren Bravo and Shai Hope coming good. John Campbell and Shimron Hetmyer also got starts and this is a good sign for West Indies.

Likely Playing XI – Windies

Gayle, Campbell, Hope (WK), Bravo, Hetmyer, Pooran, Holder(C), Brathwaite, Nurse, Bishoo and Thomas.

Team news –England

While Adil Rashid got vital breakthroughs, Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes were the stand-out bowlers for England. And in Jason Roy and Bairstow, they have a solid opening pair that’s ideal for limited-overs cricket.

With the outcome of the 1st ODI, England has well and truly showcased their ODI prowess. They bat deep and have bit hitters all along the way. And on the bowling front, they have the pace and variety in the form of spin to boot as well.

Likely Playing XI – England

Roy, Bairstow, Root, Morgan(C), Stokes, Buttler(WK), Ali, Woakes, Rashid, Plunkett, and Wood.

Hot Picks

Shai Hope: he’s a fantastic prospect for the West Indies and displayed good form with his 64 (65) in the 1st And given that he’s likely to bat higher than Jos Buttler in the batting order, you could pick Hope as your wicket-keeper batsman.

As for top-order batsmen, it’s an absolute party with several for you to choose form. Chris Gayle, Jason Roy, Bairstow and Campbell – they’re all good touch and can take the game away from the opposition.

Then England middle-order batsmen appear in great form as well. Therefore, you could consider the likes of Joe Root and Eoin Morgan. Things are looking promising on the West Indian front as well with Darren Bravo putting in a good score and Hetmyer showing that you’ve got to keep an eye on him at all times.

As for the all-rounders, you’ve got Brathwaite, Jason Holder, Stokes, Moeen Ali and Woakes to choose from. Needless to say, they’re all world-class.

And finally, they are plenty of match winners with the ball to entice you. While Adil Rashid is a wicket-taker, Dev Bishoo can turn it well and Mark Wood’s got the pace to dent the opposition.
